Damn, September was a good month for the scene. Excision and Bassnectar put Florida on the radar, Bombtraxx and the Tuff Love Dubs Mashup parties showed we knew how to throw down. Next month is looking even more wicked, with the combination of the Floridub Launch Party, Datsik, and Halloween, we’re set to make the Tampa Bay area scene blow up.
Itchy Robot played no small part in that, headlining alongside Sluggo at the epic Tuff Love Dubs show. Itchy is currently on his North American tour, and we at Floridub wish him much success and safe travels. Before he departed for less tropical parts, he dropped this mix in our lap and bid us farewell… until next time he rolls through of course .
NERD RAGE just hit me up with this sick remix of Lil Jon’s club classic, Outta Your Mind. I’d been bugging him about it for weeks, but he delivered! Starting off with a typical hip-hop beat, he lets things play out a bit before dropping the floor out from under Lil Jon and twisting things into glitchy thugged-out dubstep. I guarantee you’re gonna hear this dropped at a few clubs soon.
Jason Federman AKA Subpirate, has been running the Turbo Tuesday dubstep weekly at FUBAR for the past few months. Not only has it been wildly successful, it’s basically where the dubstep scene in the Tampa Bay area is being forged. We sat him down for an interview, and he hooked us up with a mix.
As the backbone of Turbo Tuesdays, the first and only successful Dubstep weekly in the area you are an innovator at the forefront of the Tampa Bay Dubstep scene. I’ve been to your shows and I must say that I am impressed. What you do for the scene is commendable and you have our respect. When and how did this all get started?
Well turbo Tuesdays started as a open mic night here at Fubar where a few local bedroom DJ’s and other performers that would come out and provide some sort of entertainment for the bar. I saw this not going very well and decided to do something about it. Fresh home from the WMC in Miami I found inspiration for Turbo Tuesday. I never had such a good time at a party as I did that week and wanted to continue the fun. Knowing dubstep was finally going to be the next marketable genre of EDM. I got with Todd Frain the bartender on that Tuesday night and we got it going. Spreading the sounds of the dub and bass to the few that were into it I gave the night a name and with the help of a pile of awesome friends started promoting the night I made friends with a few DJs that were new themselves to the scene but had a good following of friends from the surrounding colleges the night picked up and gained steam. We started booking weekly acts that would bring with them a few new faces each week and from there the word started to spread. and since the inception of Turbo we have had one clear purpose to put the best of the best in the Dubstep world in to the faces of the local masses.
Skism is doing a remix competition for their latest upcoming release “Back Off”. I gotta say, I wasn’t feeling the original that much, it lacked any sort of punch or energy. Fortunately, our friend Alexandre decided to give it a shot, and invoked some serious energy and intensity into the original, turning it into a straight banger that demands you turn your speakers be turned up to max.
Our friend Halo Nova is doing big things! He just posted the set he played at Music Box in LA. I noticed a bunch of new tracks from him in here, and I gotta say they sound stellar. It starts off with a gentle intro via “Skeleton Harvester” which reminds me of early Rusko, then progresses into that intensely crunk filthy shit y’all can’t get enough of and doesn’t let up until it’s over, finishing off with Nova’s own blend of Borgore’s “Money”.

Daaaaamn. This starts off as a really pop sounding “dance” anthem, progresses into some trademark Nero-style thick rolling-thunder wubs, then Plan B jumps in over a violin loop to finish things off with a bump up to epic territory.
In short, you’re gonna want to throw this on repeat.
