BASSFACE Vol. 16

Hello there. It’s time for another installment of the Bassface roundup. Most of you are quite familiar, but if you are new to this, it is where we normally post all the really gnarly Brosteppy, Futurebass tunes we found by lesser-known artists over the last week or so. Sometimes work from more well known artists makes it in here, but it is usually designed to both help expose some of the worthy up-and-dubbing producers, and to let our followers know which artists to look for on the horizon. Admit it… You love us!

Buchan – I don’t know a lot about this guy, but when I heard his new release on 420 Recordings, I knew my fellow Floridubbers would want to hear the funky, but heavy dub-style too. So here are both sides of the record in their entirety:

Buchan – Keep it Rockin
Buchan – Hero

Cutline - Aquasky has been one of my long time favorite production teams, but they’re attempts at Dubstep just haven’t been quite on point. It seems like their sound got stuck in about 2004, but Cutline’s remix is exactly what that sound should be. Check it.

Aquasky ft. Diane Charlemagne – Take Me There (Cutline Remix)

ShockOne & Phetsta - These two Aussie Dubheads are really trying to shake things up with their down-under bass. This track is extremely well made, with a dynamic mixture of beauty and pure filthy, disastrous rage. Just listen.

ShockOne Ft. Phetsta – Cruicfy Me (Part 2)

16bit – It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from this London based Duo, but their remix of Chase & Status’ “Hitz” proves they have still been working and lurking in the shadows with that evil sound that’s gonna jump out and…. well you get the point.

Chase & Status – Hitz (ft. Tinie Tempah) (16bit Remix)

Grime Syndicate - New grime incoming straight from the syndicate. This one is set to drop July 5th on Heavy Artillery.
Grime Syndicate - Lip'n Off

BreakNoise - Fresh on my radar is BreakNoise from Birmingham, Brittan. This guy immediately caught my attention with his deep and ravey sound. He uses a lot of natural textures to draw you in, then bashes in your mind with some really heavy and gross electronic bass. Keep an eye on this one.

BreakNoise - Strangest Place

Emalkay feat Lena Cullen – The World [Official Video]

New video from Emalkay to help promote his recent albmum Eclipse. I don’t want to spoil anything, but this video is extremely weird.

Skrillex – Rock n Roll Will Take You to the Mountain (Official Video)

Though this track came out last October with the Scary Monsters EP, Skrillex only released the official video last week. It is a short chronicle of his epic journey through an uncountable amount of shows since that album dropped. The video includes cameos from well known artists like DJ Craze, Datsik, and 12th Planet (just to name a few). If you like Skrillex, you will definitely enjoy this video.

EXCLUSIVE: Bro Safari & Nerd Rage – Real Life

This naughty little banger by Bro Safari & Nerd Rage showed up in my inbox a couple days ago. With a headbanger’s vibe and a unique rhythm, you can tell these guys put their time in on this captivating collaboration. It’s set for Release in Mid July on Ultragore, with a track called ‘Nosey’ on the B-Side. Watch out for this and remember where you heard it first. =]

Skrillex vs Calvertron mashup by Freefire

This crazy ass, head-smashing mashup mixed by Freefire came my way last week courtesy of fellow Floridubber, Sean Fee. I recommend giving it a listen, and I also recommend checking out Sean’s new mix called “The Dub Connection 2011″.

Downlink – Deep Space (Offical Music Video)

Somehow let this one slip by last month when it came out but its totally worth watching if you haven’t seen it already.

And while you’re here, check out some of the remixes.

Downlink – Deep Space (SPL Remix)

Downlink – Deep Space (Stagga Remix)

Crystal Distortion – Strings Of Vice (High Rankin Remix)

It’s been a while since we posted anything by High Rankin, so when I came across this new remix I felt compelled to share it with you. Starting off with some early 90s Bigbeat style piano, and then slapping you in the face with some undeniable filth, this tune definitely reminded me why I regard High Rankinas one of the greatest Dubstep producers.

Excision & Downlink – Heavy Artillery (SKisM Remix)

Just the name of this track has “epic” written all over it. Heavyweight, Skism, remixes this insanely ruthless tune from Dubstep legends Excision & Downlink. Although it definitely lives up to the expectations set by the names on this piece, I was let down by the blatant use of regurgitated patches and the lack of new sounds.

Benga – Smack Your Bitch Up

Benga’s take on Prodigy’s Smack My Bitch Up. It’s not bad, definitely worth a listen, and you can probably find a nice spot to fit it into your playlist, but it’s nothing pants-dropping amazing.

Gimme The Moombahton

Well I didn’t plan on doing a Moombahton post but it’s not like anyone planned on Moombahton being what it is. Like the genre itself, it just sort of happened, and continues to happen. My playlist is slowly being consumed by the sound, and as it develops its bringing some heavy dubstep influence with it. You might not think an offshoot of Reggaeton and Dutch House would be big on filth distortion and wubs, but I’d have to argue that if anything the Moombahton I’ve been hearing lately is heavier on all of those elements than much of the hard-line dubstep that’s come my way. I’m setting up a Moombahton category to see where it goes, and if ya’ll are feeling it, leave a comment or throw us a few ‘likes’ and we’ll keep it going.

This collabo between the Tampa area’s resident dubstep authority Nerd Rage and Tuff Love Dubs’ powerhouse Sluggo was what first got my attention. Everything in here flows together incredibly well to create a dark twist on a very fun style, like a zombie invasion of a tropical island. (via Generation Bass

Nerd Rage & Slugg - El Cuco

No discussion of The Moombahton is complete without a mention of Munchi. Rage Against The Machine and Lil Scrappy samples battle it out between ping-pong bass. (via Generation Bass

Munchi - Paperchase

Finally Diplo of Mad Decent brings us his trademark “everything including the kitchen sink” approach to mixing to mash together various delectable forms of Moombahton into an hour-long mix packed with energy and surpises. (via Mad Decent
