Dubstep is kinda like this:

Chances are you’ve seen this image floating around the interwebs, finding it mildly amusing. I found it truly inspirational, and after a little digging, and a lot of procrastination I threw together this little video so you can get the full effect of what was intended from the original (de)motivational poster. I hope you enjoy and repost this video as much as possible. Thank you.

Brotown Remix Contest

The Badasses of Bass music over at Brotown Records announced yesterday that they are holding a remix contest for this new HULK collaboration with SickOrWell. Check out the tune, and if you’re a producer who wants in on this, grab the stems here.

Also be sure to check out the sneak peak of this forthcoming HULK tune called “Cheeselog”.

Emalkay interview on Get Darker

Dubstep veteran and heavyweight, Emalkay, sits down with Darkside from GetDarkerTV to talk about his attitude toward production, as well as past and future plans and his relationship with the Dub Police label. This is another great interview from GetDarker, (and I’m not sure why this bothers me) I just wish they’d invest in some lavaliers so they can stop using that ridiculous red microphone screen.

New Synth: NI Razor

The masters of digital production software just released this cheap and extremely bad ass synth for Reaktor, along with what has to got be the most badass advertisement for a piece of music equipment of all time. Watch This:

This Aint Dubstep!

Now that I have your attention, I want to point out that I am not complaining. These are three badass tracks from three badass producers. I just didn’t have any other excuse to post them in my Dubstep blog. =] Check em out.

Document One - One of my favorite production groups comes through with this really funky, Nuskool Break titled “Bubble & Squeek”. It does have a Dubstep breakdown toward the end, then transitions back into Breaks. I will definitely be playing this one out.

Skrillex - Judging by the fact that Skrillex is close friends with Deadmau5, it makes sense that he would eventually come out with a nasty Electro House track. “Disco Rangers” is one of the tracks leaked from Skrillex’s stolen hard drives.

Dubsidia - I absolutely love this track. This half Dubstep and half two-step Break, but 100% badass tune dropped earlier this week on Play Me 2 as part of the “Pasta with Ganja” EP. Check it out.

Fresh Filth – Homegrown Dubstep Apparel

Born out of love for the music, Orlando based graphic designer, Tom Munz, started Fresh Filth Clothing late last year with nothing more than some spare cash and a few ideas. After printing one-offs of his own Dubstep inspired designs and wearing them out to shows, Tom realized he was on to something when people started consistently approaching him to ask when where they can get shirts like his for themselves. Word about Tom’s tees spread through the Orlando scene and demand skyrocketed since at the time there was nobody printing high-quality Dubstep inspired shirts. Fresh Filth became an instant hit. Once the store was online, inventory dropped by half within the first 24 hours. Realizing his impact on the community, Tom wanted to involve his fans in his art so he took the time to ask each of his customers for feedback and ideas of what they were looking for in nuskool Dubstep tees, and plans to incorporate that input in his upcoming designs. We just wanted to take this time to recognize Fresh Filth Clothing for their passion and contribution to the Florida Dubstep community.

“I feel like what really sets us apart from other clothing companies is the passion we have for what we do. We’re out at every dubstep show we can get to, we eat it up, it’s what we live for. Honestly, if we’re not out skanking somewhere, then chances are good that we’re thinking up new shirt ideas and laying down new designs. We really strive to make products that people are proud to wear at their favorite dubstep venues, and we really want our costumers to feel like they’re part of our community.” -Tom

Take some time to check out the Fresh Filth site and their designs. If you like it buy a shirt and friend them on Facebook.

  • Duct Tape Art – If you think you overuse duct tape, check out Ukrainian Born Mark Khaisman. This Russian schooled and now Philadelphia based artist has come up with some pretty amazing ways to layer duct tape and regular packaging tape into strikingly realistic portraits.
  • Acid experiments with Grama – While researching for a biography on one of my favorite authors, Aldous Huxley, biographer Don Lattin uncovered some interesting video on LSD experiments from the 1950s. Most interestingly a video of Dr. Sidney Cohen dosing volunteers at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in L.A. including a prim and proper housewife who could quite possibly be your grandmother. I must say the experiment is rather humorous. You can read the full article documenting the experiment, or just watch the video here.
  • Neuro Headset for your PC – Innovator and true genius, Tan Le has developed a wireless (and stylish) headset which you can use to control your personal computer. Dubbed “Emotive”, this tool has the potential to truly revolutionize the way we interact with computers. The first thing I wanted to know is if you can use it to make music, and yes you can. In fact, they already have developed some sound creation software specifically for the device, and you can also use it to control any existing software you have. For only $300, this is a pretty exciting toy. Check out the TED talk where Tan Le demonstrates how easy it is for someone new to the device to control and manipulate digital objects.

  • 3D Animated Graffiti – This Australian digital graffiti artist behind Graffiti Technica is truly innovating the art form with his ability to blend cutting edge surreal graphics into video footage. He has earned enough attention to land commercial work for N-VIDIA, Intel, Redbull and other major companies. I have been following his work for a couple years now because I like his futuristic style, but his new video renderings have been really making me want to spend some time inside some 3D graphics software. Check out the future of graffiti.
  • Beeple Videos – I became interested in Wisconsin based graphic designer and short film producer beeple, aka Mike Winkelmann when I overheard that he supplies the VJ scene with a decent amount of those weird little videos you always see projected on club walls. At that point I had no idea he produced the video for “Kill Your Coworkers” by Flying Lotus. His website is amazing and his artwork is deeply inspirational, you should check it out and fan him on facebook or something.
  • Driveby Stenciling – Yes, some creative kids with too much time on their hands figured out a way to really piss off inner-city business owners. How deliciously obnoxious.

Dragon by Robert Lang

  • Beyond Origami - American physicist Robert Lang is a true visionary. Not only did he develop a software algorithm that allows him to fold pretty much anything out of an uncut piece of paper, he has made groundbreaking inventions by fusing his origami with other technologies. For example, he designed how airbags fold up into car steering wheels. So on top of holding several patents on cutting edge laser technology, giving TED talks, and being the editor-in-chief of the IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, Lang is currently helping NASA design football-field-sized optical lenses for their new telescope (the size of Manhattan) that need fold up into a space shuttle for transport. Most impressively, his work has lead to the development of an injectable stent graft that is designed to hold open blocked arteries. Who knew origami could potentially save your life?
  • LIFE Saving Nuclear Waste- An acronym for Laser Inertial Fusion Engine, LIFE is a new alternate fuel source being developed at the super-secret Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The researchers have developed a method of cooking nuclear waste with the worlds largest, most high powered laser in a way that creates clean burning fuel. Though this new approach to thermonuclear fusion is still being developed, it has the potential to solve our energy crisis.
  • ASCII Art IRL – Innovative artist Keira Rathbone has been creating some amazing images using nothing more than vintage typewriters. She also performs her work live. Check out some video.
