EXCLUSIVE: Bro Safari & Nerd Rage – Real Life

This naughty little banger by Bro Safari & Nerd Rage showed up in my inbox a couple days ago. With a headbanger’s vibe and a unique rhythm, you can tell these guys put their time in on this captivating collaboration. It’s set for Release in Mid July on Ultragore, with a track called ‘Nosey’ on the B-Side. Watch out for this and remember where you heard it first. =]

Gorillaz – Clint Eastwood (Borgore Remix)

So this actually happened… the official title is “Borgore’s Not Promising Anything When Im Drunk Ever Again, Remix” but we’ll just call it badass. It’s not the first time I’ve heard an unorthodox collaboration from Mr. Gore that’s turned into a personal favorite (see No Love). He really shines when he steps out of the genre to mix his style of filth with something you wouldn’t expect.

Rob Zombie – Sick Bubblegum (Skrillex Remix)

Can’t say I’ve ever been a fan of Rob Zombie, but since Skrillex seems to be playing up his roll of Rock’s Ambassador to Dubstep lately (or is it Dubstep’s Ambassador to Rock?), I naturally expect collaborations like this will happen more frequently, and from what I’ve heard so far these genres are made for each other.

With a tilt more towards the electronic, Skrillex chops up Rob’s lyrics into bits and pieces and tosses them into a hype tune salad. It’s not as epic and filthy as say Equinox, and it’s definitely not touching Get Up in terms of being a stand out genre-mashup, but it’ll hold your attention throughout.

Manotti da Vinci’s “Verrocchio’s Workshop” EP

Big ups Manotti da Vinci aka DJ RNS for giving us the heads up on his freshly released EP. You might remember we featured the track  ’Girl Hollaaa‘ off this a few weeks ago, and the rest of the EP follows in a similar vein of finely blending various forms of hip-hop, dubstep, a bit of drumstep, and electro house into a 10 track banger that sounds like it was meant to be the soundtrack  for a Summer pool-side party.

Spotlight: Claw of HULK + The Warbound Mix!

I’m told there are those out there who don’t know who HULK is, or why we’re talking to him. To you I say: welcome to the internet! How’s AOL working out for you? To those who ‘know’, HULK is one of the premiere US dubstep artists out there right now, consisting of veterans of the electronic music scene Claw and Richie August. We were lucky enough to snag Claw for an interview to get into the mindset of the man who will be destroying faces this Thursday at our Watts of Wub show…

Spotlight: Prolific + Free Mix

Two Veteran Heavyweights in the underground music scene are bringing their unique take on Dubstep to Florida. Coming off a very successful European tour, and rocking the midwestern leg of their US tour, their journey through Florida promises to be one for the ages. If you’ve heard of 6BLOCC or Prolific before it was probably from their reputation in the DnB or Turntablism scenes, but their legacy goes farther back than Dubstep itself.

6BLOCC aka R.A.W. has been on the cutting edge of the underground music scene for twenty-five years. Stepping up to the wheels of steel in 1985, this man has had a head start on almost every DJ you’ve ever heard – he was already battling local DJs in Los Angeles as modern DJ culture was in its infancy. In 1988 he made his move into the hip hop game and dropped 2 vinyl releases under the name PROJECT X. A few years later, as the sounds of UK Hardcore and Jungle were creeping on the shelves of record stores in L.A., R.A.W. was quick to pick it up and started playing major raves along side Industry legends like DJ Dan. In 1994, with a handful of friends, R.A.W helped fuel the beginnings of the L.A. Jungle scene, where they were throwing parties in the same abandoned train station that Preditor II was filmed. Since then there have been over 3 dozen releases under the names R.A.W and 6BLOCC on several labels world wide.

Emcee/ Turntablist/ Producer/ B-Boy/ Graffiti Artist and all-around badass, Prolific, has worked along side a countless list of stars in both the EDM and HipHop industries. He is sponsored by Rane, Madclout and Urban Dewellar Clothing, he has been featured in television shows on B.E.T and NBC, and he runs the influential label, FOULPLAY RECORDS which has been well known in the DnB world, and is now dropping chart-topping Dubstep hits. Prolific is easily an industry mastermind as well as a musical genius.

Prolific spent some time with Floridub to talk about his success as well as the upcoming Florida tour. Full interview + free mix after the jump!

Spotlight: BARE

When I first came across Bare AKA Sean Rodela late last year via a mix he did for Squitty Bubbler (which you can stream and download below) I must have listened through that mix daily for at least a week. The combination of hip-hop vocals from Biggie, Pharcyde, and Snoop Dogg among others, layered over a very distinguishing rapid machine-gun like wobble, continuous deep bassline, and skillful mixing from high to low intensity and back again, kept me hooked not just on the mix but on the original tracks scattered throughout it. And that’s the thing — in a sea of fresh-faced DJ’s and producers all trying to take a bite at the dubstep apple, Bare has distinguished himself with original productions and solid remixes that hit the sweet spot between being brutally filthy while at the same time being accessible to those who aren’t familiar with the genre.

In preparation for his performance next week at Turbo Tuesdays in St. Pete, Sean put aside some time to speak with us about things, and stuffFull interview + free tracks, mixes, and clips after the jump!

FLD: What artist/song/event drew you into producing dubstep?

BARE: From the get go it was my long time good friend Raoul (6Blocc).
He kept hitting me up telling me “yo u should start making dubstep, I think you would do super well with that”. I eventually did and wow… Look where I’m at now ;)
As far as songs go. Early Bar9 biz is what sealed the deal for me.

6BLOCC

Kickin ass since the mid 80s, 6BLOCC (aka R.A.W) is a veteran of the DMC Circuit, as well as the HipHop and Jungle scene, but in 2006 everything changed when he was turned on to Dubstep.

“The sound spoke to me and said follow me…and I did… I felt like I was ready to change my style and move onto a new sound…dubstep was exactly what I needed at the time. Drum and bass reached a point where I no longer felt like it was me and it was also getting too fast and void of the funk.”

6BLOCC has always been known for his relentless techniques behind the wheels of steel, and is now creating blends of hypnotic textures and warped basslines from the future using Cubase SX3, 6blocc says,

“I decided to use Cubase to give it a different feel than the usual mix-cd and to add my own samples and edits.”

Teamed up with accomplished Emcee/DJ/Producer, Prolific, 6blocc is currently touring the US with a rumored stop through Turbo Tuesdays in St. Pete. When they hit us up about promoting their 2011 tour, Loyalty Amongst Thieves, they shared some of the tunes they are working on. Here are a couple clips from what they sent us, and we are promised some exclusive downloads to hype their show when they come through next month. Stay tuned for details.

Oh,and If you’re wondering where the name 6BLOCC came from:

“I got the name from a Masta Ace song where he says, “the bass I create is heard from six blocks”. BOOM!

Polish Pat’s Suicide Dub Mix

Friend and associate Polish Pat sent this my way after I proposed the idea of doing a mix of the Suicide Dub compilation, and I have to say it turned out stellar considering the variety of styles covered. Apparently it also caught the attention of High Rankin himself, who sent some much deserved props out to Pat.
