Good News/ Bad News

Okay. Bad news first:
Due to unforeseen circumstances, The Speaker Tweakerz will no longer be headlining our upcoming event. There is some heavy drama on the burner, and it is possible that we may not see them working together in the future. We would like to deeply apologize to you for changing the lineup, and we hope you understand how frustrating it is for us as the event promoters to not be able to deliver what we promised.

However.
We are happy that this gives us an opportunity to bring you one of Florida’s most underrated heavyweight DJs, The Inconspicuous Villain. This guy is a true industry head. He writes reviews for multiple websites and record labels, and he belongs to every promo group imaginable. So this villainous character has his hands on tunes that nobody else can get at, and he usually gets them way before anyone has even heard about them. He constantly makes me jealous with his track selection and impresses me with his innovative DJ skills, typically involving 4 decks in Traktor. You can check him out every 1st & 3rd Sunday on NSB Radio, and he just dropped us this exclusive mix to get your mouth watering before the show this coming Thursday.

I Wrestled a Bear Once

Goddamn.

IWABO – Danger In The Manger (SLUGGO N ITCHY ROBOT REMIX)

Oh, right, I’m supposed to say something. For those who do not know, such as myself, I Wrestled a Bear Once is actually a pretty kickass band with a knack for weird music videos. Observe.

Exclusive: Skism’s Back Off (Alexandre Remix)

Alexandre was kind enough to send his Back Off remix my way, we featured a preview of it a few weeks ago, but it’s now available for download and enjoyment via your multimedia devices. Be sure to check out his original works as well, some really massive sounds going on there. If you’ve seen Inception, Regret Nothing might sound very familiar.

EXCLUSIVE: Itchy Robot’s “Coming Back to Da USA” Mix

Damn, September was a good month for the scene. Excision and Bassnectar put Florida on the radar, Bombtraxx and the Tuff Love Dubs Mashup parties showed we knew how to throw down.  Next month is looking even more wicked, with the combination of the Floridub Launch Party, Datsik, and Halloween, we’re set to make the Tampa Bay area scene blow up.

Itchy Robot played no small part in that, headlining alongside Sluggo at the epic Tuff Love Dubs show. Itchy is currently on his North American tour, and we at Floridub wish him much success and safe travels. Before he departed for less tropical parts, he dropped this mix in our lap and bid us farewell… until next time he rolls through of course .

Outta Your Mind

NERD RAGE just hit me up with this sick remix of Lil Jon’s club classic, Outta Your Mind. I’d been bugging him about it for weeks, but he delivered! Starting off with a typical hip-hop beat, he lets things play out a bit before dropping the floor out from under Lil Jon and twisting things into glitchy thugged-out dubstep. I guarantee you’re gonna hear this dropped at a few clubs soon.

Spotlight Exclusive: Halo Nova Interview + Mini-Mix

We were lucky enough to have Halo Nova give us a bit of his time to answer a few questions about his work, and he was nice enough to put together an exclusive mini-mix with some never before heard tracks he’s been working on. Keep your eye on this dude, he’s one of Florida’s finest.

Who are your biggest influences?

I love both the newer, more aggressive stuff, and the older, chiller stuff. My influences for Halo Nova include The Widdler, Engine-Earz Experiment, Funtcase, 16 Bit, Skream, Burial, Datsik, Flux Pavillion, Doctor P and much more.

What originally got you interested in EDM, and specifically Dubstep?

I’ve always been into electronic music… I can remember listening to Shy FX back in 9th grade, and even happy hardcore back in 7th grade! It’s such a huge part of me. I got into dubstep around 2006, with people like Skream and Coki and Mala/DMZ.

Name some record labels you follow.

Circus, Z-Audio, Twisted, Brainfeeder, Warp, Ninja Tune, and Hyperdub. :)

Which DAW Software do you prefer?

I use primarily FL Studio 9, although I’m moving over to Logic Pro very very soon. I’m in desperate need of upgrade!

What are some of your favorite VSTs?

For dubstep, I love Massive. It’s so powerful and endless in it’s sounds. For everything else I do production wise, I love Nexus, Omnisphere, Ethno, and the East-West Quantum Leap libraries.

What do you think Dubstep expresses about contemporary urban culture?

It expresses the fact that people love experimentation and innovation above all. Never before have I seen a genre spread so widely across so many different cultures. It’s just such an interesting, loveable sound that can be played around with in endless ways, and people LOVE that.
