Subcity, aka fellow Floridubber Garrett Hensley from Sarasota, has been sending us tracks from time to time, always showing improvement. With some of the best Dubstep producer role-models Florida has to offer as close friends, I see promising things in the future for this eager up and comer. A metalhead at heart, Subcity has been spending the last couple years paying his dues playing out at local gigs in Central Florida and in the studio developing a dynamic sound. His newest project showcases his taste in a more traditional flavor of deep, delay-heavy dubs and is perfect to zone out to on a lazy Sunday. Check it out and keep an eye on this name in the future.

Subcity – Dark Matter
Noah D – Just Right ft. The Grouch (Sounduo Remix)
If you like jam bands and you also like live EDM, you’re going to love Sounduo. These two dudes from Miami managed to come up with the perfect mixture of Dub, Glitch Hop, Reggae and Grime… And they do it live. Masters of creating a futuristic glowing dub atmosphere while maintaining the filth-driven, party-vibe feel of bass music, Sounduo has already showcased their abilities to cater to both festival environments as well as intimate club settings. And with performances all over the Southeast Untited States including Ultra, Aura, and Blackwater festivals on their resume, you know these boys mean business.
Their latest remix is a testament to that, and there’s more to come. After the release of their debut album on Made In Glitch Recordings and subsequent tour earlier this year, Sounduo continues to push the boundaries of post-dub/glitch music and are poised to enter the national arena. I expect big things from these guys real soon.
Darj – Dark Matter EP
In their journeys through the uncharted underground, our friends at Low Pass Records found this prolific French producer called Darj. After unearthing his hefty catalog of deep and dark dubs left overlooked by most, Low Pass Records signed him for their sixth release. Enter the ‘Dark Matter EP’. Four tracks of vastly spacious Dubstep of the more traditional variety that will take you on a soothing journey through sound and space.
The EP dropped yesterday so you can grab a copy at Beatport, and get a free promo from Darj when you visit the Low Pass Records Soundcloud page.
iLL Audio feat. Roots Manuva – Chase
Distinctive Records is starting off the new year with a solid release from their newest team member, ill Audio. Featuring vocals legendary British lyricist, Roots Manuva, ill Audio takes us on a dubbed out excursion into deep hybrid territory, with elements ranging from Reggae to Rock music. Plus there is a DnB remix from Artificial Intelligence on the B-Side.
‘Chase feat. Roots Manuva’ is designed to wet your appetite for ill Audio’s new album scheduled to drop on Distinctive this summer. Rumored to feature collaborations with many heavyweights including Skunk Anansie and more from Roots Manuva, ill Audio’s new album is already attracting attention from many industry heads including DJ Mag who wrote:
“An exciting new live act to break onto the scene… Keep an eye out, they’re gonna make waves this year.”
Check for this Single when it drops February 6th, and stay tuned for more details about iLL Audio’s forthcoming album.
Skit – Subconscious EP
Skit was described to me as an artist known for fuzing musical influences from a wide range of genres. That idea is reflected in this two-track EP as ‘Calling’ draws influence from mid-‘90s trance and blends classic vocals with deep and tripped-out Dubstep, and ‘Intimate’ is a minimal track blended with a prevalent Burial influence. The result is definitely worth a listen. The EP drops later this month on Coalition-Audio.
Datsik & Bassnectar – Elevate
This new collaboration from two of the biggest heavyweights in our beloved genre doesn’t quite deliver what I would expect. It is quite mellow but still has that kind of wobbly groove you can zone out to. Perfect for Mellowstep Monday.
Bonus:
Datsik & Bassnectar – Yes
Kraddy – Anthems of the Hero

I recently received news from founding Glitch-Mob member, Kraddy, that he has a new album dropping October 10th. “Anthems of the Hero” promises to be a benchmark in the career of this Cali-based beat conductor. I was allowed a private preview of the album and I must say it has an original organic feel to it that I have never heard before. To wet your appetite, we were given two huge tracks from this album to share with you for a limited time.
Free Love Digi – Mixed Signals EP
I got a message earlier this week from Free Love Digi, a record label about to make their way into the wilderness we know as the music industry. With a mellow vibe and a idealistic message of “bringing everyone together through music” I wish this seemingly naive record label the best in their journeys. Their debut EP is a compilation of deep Mellowstep and Jungle jams from their resident artists including heavy hitters Timeline & Daytona. To help promote their arrival, Free Love Digi also posted some free tunes on their Soundcloud page. Check ‘em out.
Midweek Mellowstep: Spenca – Birds EP
Badman Press shot us this promo last week and I’m just getting around to giving it a spin. For a track containing vocals with such a negative connotation, I am surprised how happy and uplifting the melodies made me feel. The release contains two well made tunes that are good for zoning out to when you reach that mid-week slump. You can get yourself a copy of this EP for free by liking either Spenca or DZ‘s facebook page.
Caspa – Sir Rock Alot
Here’s some mid-week Mellowstep for everyone who needs to take a break and mellow out with some trippy cartoon action. “Sir Rock Alot” is forthcoming on Caspa’s own label Sub Soldiers entitled ‘Not For The Playlist EP‘ which also features tracks “Champion Skank”, “It Is What It Is” and “Hot Shoe Shuffle”. Pick your copy up when it drops on September 5th.
