Subscape – Universal EP [DP-057]

Since his debut release on Dub Police back in 2008, Subscape has come a long way, quickly emerging as one of the most exciting young talents to come out of the UK Dubstep scene. Pushing some of the deepest dub sounds I’ve come across, his forthcoming release sets the standard for melodic Dubstep. Universal EP is a dynamic journey through heavily saturated flavors of sound and space. From the beautiful textures of “Turn Me On” & “Apple Candy” backed by more of a traditional Dubstep feel, to the more contemporary sounds of “Cadalac Jack” transitioning from the sublime into a more aggressive sound with some Massive(vst) scream filter synths, this EP is is one to be experienced in the headphones as well as on the dance floor. Not to mention the title track, “Universal”, which is a nostalgia driven adventure of the 8bit superhero. I highly recommend picking up a copy when it drops on Dub Police Sept. 4th.

Emalkay feat Lena Cullen – The World [Official Video]

New video from Emalkay to help promote his recent albmum Eclipse. I don’t want to spoil anything, but this video is extremely weird.

Nero’s Dubstep Symphony [video]

This is an incredible moment in EDM history. It is probably the coolest collaboration I have heard since Hybrid teamed up with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra to record their album “Wide Angle”. Nero’s set is slightly more anticlimactic than I anticipated but is extremely interesting to listen to and has at least one sick drop for all you skeptical bass addicts. It is truly impressive to see how far Dubstep has come.

In June 2011, pioneering dubstep/drum and bass producers, Nero, teamed up with the world-famous BBC Philharmonic. The result is this unique blend between two music genres. Orchestrated and conducted by Joe Duddell. Performed live from Salford.

Nero’s symphony has been rebalanced to more closely fulfill the vision that the band had for the piece and to ensure that this pioneering mix of orchestra and dubstep is available in its full glory.

Mellowstep Monday

This picture sums up the gloom and apprehension that surrounds the way I look at Monadys. Sorry to leave y’all hangin, but I managed to spend all of my free time in the studio this weekend which needless to say, rearranged my priority list. So I in an attempt to make it up to you, I now present Mellowstep Monday.

Butch Clancy - Usually showing up in the Bassface section, Butch Clancy comes through a really nice remix of this song by Sia . It has its heavy parts, but it is mostly very soothing and almost theraputic to listen to. I hope you enjoy it as much as me. Oh, and you can download it for free right here.

Sia - Breathe Me (Butch Clancy Remix)

Jess Mills - Another Euro-Pop star dabbling in Dubstep releases. This track is very well made, but there are no production credits given.

Jess Mills - Live For What I'd Die For

KOAN Sound - Following up his last release “Trouble in the West”, is the first mellow jam I’ve heard come from this Bristol based producer. It is another well made, tranquil and therapudic sounding track. Here is the purchase link.

Andain - Promises (KOAN Sound Remix)

Distance - I am truly impressed by this really deep and involved tune. I don’t know how I have overlooked this Producer, but I will definietly keep an eye on him from now on. His remix of “Too Close” by Alex Care is forthcoming on Island Records.

Alex Care - Too Close (Distance Remix)

Blackmill - I was caught off guard with how impressively imaculate this tune from long-time unsigned, up-and-coming Brittish Producer, Robert Card. Look out for this guy.

Blackmill - My Love

Heist - This veteran DnB producer comes through with some really sickening original patches in his new tune called “Slugs & Snails”. Heist describes this tune as: “3rd dubstep thing ive finished, no release date at this time”. I Love it.

Liquid Stranger - Another solid tune from one of my favorite American Artists. Exhibiting the diversity of his style with this one, Liquid Stranger branches out to the more traditional dub format, but maintains the weight we’ve come to expect from his tracks. Plus its free if you like his facebook page.

Jakwob ft. Smiler – Right Beside You (Official Video)

Forgot to push this one out yesterday, though it actually came out on Mercury Records almost a month ago. It’s a chill lil Dub-Hop banger from relatively new-to-the game producer, Jakwob, who keeps showing up on my radar after his first album got picked up by Ministry of Sound. I think this is the first time I got a chance to actually post one of his tunes tho. Hope you enjoy.

Mellowstep Sunday

Happy Sunday Florridubbers. Enjoy these tunes and do your best to relax and avoid the heat as you prepare for another week.

Laney – This beautiful, funky and spacy jam from rookie Brit., Laney, has one of those perfectly irresistible Mellowstep grooves to it. This is what its all about. Put out for free by Dank ‘n’ Dirty Dubz.

Laney - Summer Feet

Liquid Stranger - Two new tunes from this Scottsdale, AZ based fan favorite. Arcane, has a creative vibe to it that travels from deep tribal to an Electro-Hip-Hop and Raggae influenced flavor. Bombaclaad Star is exactly what I expected from a song with that title. Its a funky and chilled out dubby-dub track that is undeniably solid.

Fytch - This soothing lil vocal wub from Netherlands was supposed to be featured in last weeks Mellowstep post, but it was misplaced so you get it this week with an added bonus.

Robotic Pirate Monkey – The innovative, Colorado based Dub-Jamtronic band is at it again. This one is out to promote their current California tour. Watch out for these guys.

Filth Collins - A heavy but chill tune from this well known Australian producer. Its definitely a trippy tune to zone out to on a lazy Sunday.

Mellowstep Memorial Day

Well, I’ve got nothing patriotic to say. Just an excuse as to why I spent all day with a friend visiting from law school instead of keeping my fellow Floridubbers up to speed with this marvelous mellowstep. Please forgive me. I’ve got some more, heavier stuff that will be posted later today for ya as well so keep it locked.

Fedbymachines - This Deep House artists from the Netherlands decided to experiment with mellowstep one day, and this is what happened.

Fedbymachines - Bleed

Excision & Downlink - Two of the last names you’d expect to be associated with mellostep dug into their archives and posted some of their roots production work earlier this week on Soundcloud. Check it out.

Excision & Downlink - 2005

Kotez - Long time British producer has this deep and pleasant tune dropping July 18th on Eight:fx. If you’re into mellostep, definitely keep an eye on this guy.

Kotez - Nebula (Original)

Magnetic Man - Its been a while since I’ve heard anything from this epic production team, but their new tune does not disappoint. This vast and emotionally epic mellowstep journey is the last single from their forthcoming self-titled album releasing this year sometime.

Robokop - Another name not familiar to the mellowstep posts comes through with a relaxing remix just in time for this day of reflection. enjoy.

Katy B — Easy Please Me (Official Video) & Caspa Remix

A new tune from Dubstep diva, Katy B. Its got a nice, simple little groove to it and the lyrics are (to be honest) extremely cheesy, but the video is conceptually impressive and well directed.

Oh, and there’s a Caspa Remix:

Skream – Where You Should Be EP

This is what Mellowstep is all about. With a strong but chill party vibe, Skream reminds us how he earned the title “Godfather” of Dubstep. This simple, but well produced tune set the tone for what became a massive EP containing impressive remixes from artists like Shy Fx, Jack Beats and more. Here’s the title track:
