It’s safe to say when your teamed up with the worlds most eccentric and skilled producer, you’re at the top of your game, and that’s exactly what Datsik has done. Game over? Not quiet, this is a weird sort of banger. Diplo has a far cleaner style that contrasts nicely with Datsik’s and the vocals from Kay are used well, but it lacks consistency. It’s still a fun track though.

Well I didn’t plan on doing a Moombahton post but it’s not like anyone planned on Moombahton being what it is. Like the genre itself, it just sort of happened, and continues to happen. My playlist is slowly being consumed by the sound, and as it develops its bringing some heavy dubstep influence with it. You might not think an offshoot of Reggaeton and Dutch House would be big on filth distortion and wubs, but I’d have to argue that if anything the Moombahton I’ve been hearing lately is heavier on all of those elements than much of the hard-line dubstep that’s come my way. I’m setting up a Moombahton category to see where it goes, and if ya’ll are feeling it, leave a comment or throw us a few ‘likes’ and we’ll keep it going.

This collabo between the Tampa area’s resident dubstep authority Nerd Rage and Tuff Love Dubs’ powerhouse Sluggo was what first got my attention. Everything in here flows together incredibly well to create a dark twist on a very fun style, like a zombie invasion of a tropical island. (via Generation Bass)

No discussion of The Moombahton is complete without a mention of Munchi. Rage Against The Machine and Lil Scrappy samples battle it out between ping-pong bass. (via Generation Bass)

Finally Diplo of Mad Decent brings us his trademark “everything including the kitchen sink” approach to mixing to mash together various delectable forms of Moombahton into an hour-long mix packed with energy and surpises. (via Mad Decent)

I’m always surprised more people don’t know about Diplo, because there’s a good chance you’ve heard his work in the past two years and just never realized who was behind that catchy beat you were bouncing your head to. In the past few years he’s gone from producing M.I.A.’s most popular song Paper Planes, to getting nominated for a Grammy as one half of the duo behind Major Lazer, and still found time to sign the legendary Rusko to his powerhouse label Mad Decent. In all seriousness, Diplo has influenced the electronic music scene more in the past few years than any other individual I can think of. And now he’s coming to Tampa. For a Christmas party. It really is like some sort of gift from the music gods.
Two of my favorites are the remix of a track off his album Florida, and the collaboration he did with Lil Jon for U Don’t Like Me (which was transformed into a phenomenal remix from Datsik).

There’s so many tunes out there that I wish I could hook you guys up with, but they don’t get released for promotion, so there’s not much we can do in those situations that wouldn’t be equivalent to stealing from the artists we love (and that allow us to exist by cranking out sick tunes). However, thanks to the power of the interwebs, you can still listen to these choice tunes I’ve been thoroughly rinsing on my Private Reserve Playlist for the past few weeks, and if you like ‘em buy ‘em.
An incredibly spacious and melodic remix by Unsub.
This track is blowing up, a bit “poppy”, but it’s got enough bass to make up for it.

Sunday totally crept up on me. Nothing too new for y’all, but some older goodies from the archives.
