XSSR Dubstep takes another strong step forward with their first release of 2012. Exhibiting superior production skills and a taste for grime, this collaboration between Mars and KillReall is designed to prove that the label is a force to be reckoned with.
The title track is engaging from the start with an interesting use of sample arrangements that fit together like a high-scoring game of Tetris. After building into a smooth drop it opens up into a creative and organic sounding chaos that still maintains an up-beat, directional feel. ‘Gorilla Box’ will fit in any heavy Dubstep set like a block in the pyramids.
Never slowing down, Playma is back with the newest edition of their monthly ‘playmacast’. Following their standard format this installment contains 35 minutes of solid grimy bangers, including unreleased originals. It’s the perfect kind of bass overdose. Check it out below and if you like it, here’s the download link.
One of my favorite new Dubstep groups just dropped this face-melting banger for free via Facebook. The talented trio known as PLAYMA, will trade you the fruits of their labor for liking their page. There’s nothing else to say – just listen and enjoy. Big Boom!
After a show in Kalingrad a few months ago, two of my favorite Russian producers – Mars, and DaVIP, ended up in a studio with a Frenchman named Ben William. A few hours later, their combined energy and talent gave birth to this incredible new sound they call “Playma“. With backgrounds ranging through all genres of EDM and influences spanning the most eclectic sounds, this trio promises to deliver a unique blend of deep and dirty gnarliness. Their debut single dropped earlier this month on Audioporn Records, and is available on Beatport. I highly recommend picking up a copy and keeping a look out for Playma’s future releases.
Russian dubstep label XSSR Dubstep may still be in its infancy but they are set to establish their commitment to quality production with their new release from head honcho Mars who tells us to expect plenty more stonking releases throughout 2011 and beyond. In the meantime, make sure you look out his forthcoming release when it drops April 5th.

We’ve also been patiently waiting for this other tune by Mars to come out on Wicky Lindows:
OMFG the Bare show was sick! Big ups to Turbo Tuesdays for putting that show together. We got some decent footage so check for the video coming up in the next few days. Looking forward to Joker at Dangerous this Friday, then 6blocc & Prolific as well as Watts of Wub coming up in early February. For now here are some heavy wubs to ease the withdraws in between all these filthy ass shows.
Mars and DaVIP – Two of my favorite Russian Breakbeat producers are making a strong breakthrough into the Dubstep genre with their first release on Wicky Lindows. “The Desert Rain” is a heavy and melodic driven tune with some uniquely thick and grimy patches. Keep an eye out for this one (no release date yet).
Mars and DaVIP - The Desert Rain
Calverton – I’ve really been digging the early ’90s Big Beat revival cropping up here and there in newer Dubstep and Breakbeat tunes. Most recently, Calverton came through with a face melting remix of “Gangsters” by Breaks and House phenom Rico Tubbs. Check it out.
Rico Tubbs - Gangsters (CALVERTRON REMIX)
Sluggo – Not much I can say about this one… The more I listen to this tune, the more disturbing it becomes. It seems like every time it ends, my ears feel like they have just been taken advantage of. Look for this when it drops on Ultragore Recordings.
Hulk - Robots yo! (Sluggo RMX)
Torqux & Twist – Here is a peak into what two of our favorite Dubstep masterminds are up to. Played by 12th Planet during the Mary Anne Hobbs Show on BBC Radio 1, I dare you to try listening to this track without making a BASSFACE.

For Bass Reflections 50th release they chose to drop their first Dubstep remix, and a rugged one it is. Mars has been a heavy-hitter in the international NuSkool Breaks scene for a couple years now and his releases have been showing more and more dub elements. Mars’ remix of “If I Died” is a full on assault to the eardrums with the kind of wobbles that get inside your head and scramble your brains. This tune will make the perfect addition to any aggressive Dubstep DJs arsenal. Look for it when it drops on August 5th.
